in my kitchen: it's pizza time

December 04, 2015

pizza is an all time favorite in our home.  we love love love pizza.  i think it's safe to say that we eat pizza probably once a week.  we actually have a separate budget just for pizza.  i'm telling you, it's that serious!

we have dabbled with making pizza at home in the past, but we would just buy all the ingredients and just slap everything together.  this time, we totally took it up a notch and made the sauce and the dough from scratch.

i've never made dough before so i wasn't sure what to expect.  (i also probably should have taken my ring off before really getting in there and kneading the dough ;)  you live and you learn!)  my mind was totally blown after setting the dough aside for an hour and it literally doubled in size.  how?  why?  what?!  needless to say, there was enough dough for a few days...

i made everything following this recipe, but i totally should have added some more of my sass to the sauce. we both felt like it lacked some flavor and was a little bland.  that can totally just be the boricua shining through.  we love our food heavily seasoned and super tasty ;)  next time!!  (oh, and there will be a next time!)

when it came time to putting the pizza together, (and i'm going to totally throw you under the bus, sweet husband...), husband got a little overwhelmed and nervous.  he takes his pizza serious!  (i'm telling you, pizza is no joke in our household! lol)  the dough wasn't stretching as he wanted it to and i had to kick him out of the kitchen for a little bit until he calmed down.  he thought that if the dough didn't go perfectly over the edges, it would shrink and then we wouldn't have enough pizza to eat.  i can't help but giggle thinking back.  i simply told him, if the pizza was bad, we'll throw it out and buy pizza from our spot in town.  no big deal ;)  luckily we didn't have to resort to such drastic measures!!

let me know if you've ever tried making pizza from scratch!!  i'd love to know.
