el tunel de guajataca

June 29, 2018

hi guys!  back with sharing more puerto rico travel content.  hope you're enjoying it as much as i am!  i love reliving our travels by looking back at this space.

one of the place that junior and i set out to visit was el tunel de guajataca.  i  had never heard about the tunnel but junior was convinced to take us there to check it out and shoot some pictures.  we got a little lost on the way and couldn't find the place.  we did eventually find a "look out" with a view of the tunnel and neighboring beach so we were all like "if we go this way, and turn on that street coming up, we'll make it down!"  i'll share the pictures we took at the look out in a separate post.  when we drove down to find the tunel, we first came upon this river/lake.  it totally looked like we were in a jungle!  i loved the palm trees growing out of the water.  there were a few people there bar b q'ing and swimming which was such a cute, secluded spot to retreat to!

the tunel itself was pretty cool.  apparently it is a remnant of the sugar cane era.  the railway was used to transport sugar cane from the farms in the area, connecting the towns of quebradillas and isabela. it was definitely worth the visit and the views of the beach on the other side of the tunel were beautiful.
